Members should arrive in Bangor, Maine, Wednesday, September 9. Bob and/or Mike will
arrange transportation to Lubec where Bob has arranged for housing and food. Departure should
be scheduled for Sunday, September 13 after noon to allow time to drive back to the airport.
Wednesday: Dinner, informal "catching up" discussions.
Thursday morning: Public Policy Positions (What is our position; should we articulate a formal position publicly?)
1. Should we advocate complete withdrawal from the UN, or some other course of action? (Henry)
2. Should we address the 2YK issue? In what way? (Floy)
3. To what extent should we involve ourselves in trade issues, i.e. normal relations with China; the WTO, NAFTA, trade deficits, etc. (Discussion)
4. How do we protect national sovereignty while effectively engaging the "global neighborhood?" (Discussion)
5. Further UN accreditation (BV)
Thursday afternoon: Organization Issues
1. What does SI do, exactly, and how do we do it?
2. Function of Advisory Council?
3. What is SI's relationship/obligation to "members," supporters, contributors? Who is our target market/audience?
4. What is the relationship between SI and MECRI, ECO, Freedom.org, and EPI? What should it be?
5. Administration: budgets; procedures for expenditures; accounting & reporting, etc.
